Cognitive Development
Cognition is the way we use our mind to understand the world. When we study cognitive development, we are acknowledging that changes occur in how we think and learn as we grow.
Jean Piaget became interested in the philosophical question of how we come to know and understand our world, an area of study referred to as epistemology. His theory provides a set of basic principles to guide our understanding of cognitive development. Piaget believed that children think in a different way than adults do. Children have less information or less skill in thinking, and they also have qualitative differences from adults.
Genetic-epistemology: Piaget's theory that cognitive development is based on both genetics (from biology) and epistemology (a philosophical understanding of the nature of knowledge)
