Charles Darwin (1809-1882) published On the Origin of Species and introduced the idea of evolution to a wide audience. As he traveled around the world, Darwin developed the idea that natural selection, or survival of the fittest, accounts for changes in species from one generation to the next. Two theories of development are based on Darwin's ideas and they are ethology and sociobiology.
Ethology: the study of animal and human behavior in the natural environment
Sociobiology: a theory that proposes that social behavior is determined by genes that evolved to promote adaptation
